Pentagon City is a 274-acre planning area of apartment and office towers, hotels and shopping around Pentagon City Metrorail station, between I-395 and Crystal City. For more than four decades its growth followed the county’s 1976 Pentagon City Phased Development Site Plan, which the county says produced “a diverse mix of residential uses, hotels, offices, and retail.” Amazon’s decision to build its East Coast headquarters in Arlington led the county to write a new Pentagon City Sector Plan, which the County Board approved 5-0 on Feb. 12, 2022, and re-adopted unchanged on July 23, 2024, after the Virginia Court of Appeals held the original public notice insufficient.
