Crystal Drive lanes stay closed at 18th Street South and I-66 east is down a lane on the Roosevelt Bridge. Walter Reed Drive and Fort Myer Drive work goes on.

Last checked 2026-10-26. This page is refreshed weekly. Facts come from Arlington County’s transportation projects by status and individual project pages, and from the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Northern Virginia District projects list and Virginia 511 work-zone records.

For live traffic, crashes and lane closures on the interstates and state routes, use Virginia 511: 511.vdot.virginia.gov or call 511. Arlington County, not a city, runs most local road work in Arlington, and it maintains its own streets, so many repairs that would be a state job elsewhere in Virginia are county work here. Report a pothole, a dark streetlight or a broken signal with the county’s Report a Problem tool. For a crash or a hazard in the road now, call police non-emergency at 703-558-2222, or 911 if anyone is hurt.

Closures this week

Crystal Drive at 18th Street South (until spring 2027). The sidewalk and the travel lanes next to the Crystal City Metro Station east entrance site are closed around the clock. Crystal Drive keeps two northbound lanes and one southbound lane shared by cars and bikes. 18th Street South has one lane each way, shared by cars and bikes. Signs mark the pedestrian detour. Questions go to project manager Tim Brulle, 703-228-3202.

I-66 east on the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge (until April 2028). Virginia 511 lists the left lane, the left shoulder and an entrance ramp on eastbound I-66 closed for bridge work from July 14, 2025, to April 3, 2028. The District Department of Transportation runs a changed traffic pattern on the eastbound approach to the bridge. Check 511 before you go.

I-395 North exit 10A (until April 2030). Virginia 511 lists the northbound exit 10A ramps to the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Boundary Channel Drive as reduced for construction from April 13, 2026, to April 12, 2030.

South Walter Reed Drive (9th Street South to Columbia Pike). Traffic is shifted to the center lanes while crews work on the west side and widen the sidewalk. The northbound bus stop at 9th Road South is closed. The new four-way signal at 9th Street South is now fully on. The county expects this stretch done this fall, then moves north to 5th Street South, with the whole project finishing in summer 2027. Questions go to project manager Ariel Yang, 703-228-4019.

Fort Myer Drive at Langston Boulevard, Rosslyn (into 2027). Crews close lanes in turn from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays to lay signal conduit and dig in lanes and sidewalks, according to the project page. The work widens the west sidewalk across Gateway Park and adds signals on eastbound Langston Boulevard at North Nash Street and at Fort Myer Drive. The county has not posted dates for individual closures. Questions go to project manager Gabriela Kock, 703-228-3938.

Military Road at Nelly Custis Drive. Arlington County closed eastbound Military Road to Nelly Custis Drive and southbound Nelly Custis Drive to Military Road on Oct. 12 for two weeks, weather permitting, to build the new roundabout. That window ended Sunday, Oct. 25. The project page had not confirmed a reopening when we checked Monday, so look there before you drive. ART Bus 56 and school buses ran their own detours during the closure.

Marine Corps Marathon. All race closures from Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25, have ended.
